GoDaddy to hire hundreds of veterans and military spouses

GoDaddy has announced that it will hire 500 military veterans or military spouses over the next five years as part of the Joining Forces initiative.

GoDaddy has announced that it will hire 500 military veterans or military spouses over the next five years. The announcement was made public by First Lady Michelle Obama during a ceremony in Washington as part of the Joining Forces initiative she launched back in 2011.

GoDaddy's founder Bob Parsons is a decorated Vietnam veteran who served in the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1969, he served as a rifleman in the Delta Company of the 1st Battalion, 26th Marines, during a tour of duty in Vietnam, in the Quảng Nam Province. Unfortunately, during his service, he was wounded while on duty and was medically evacuated, spending two months at a naval hospital recovering. Bob Parsons earned the Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Gallantry Cross, and the Purple Heart.

In addition to hiring veterans, GoDaddy has donated more than $1.4 million to the Semper Fi Fund, which helps injured servicemen and women (qualifying post-9/11 Marines, Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen, Coast Guardsmen), including their families. The Semper Fi Fund was created by a group of Marine Corps spouses in early 2004, who help by providing the following financial, emotional, and other tiered support:

  • Family Support
  • Adaptive Housing, Adaptive Transportation
  • Specialized Equipment
  • Education and Career Transitioning
  • Rehabilitative Sports programs
  • and more.

GoDaddy also has an internal organization called "GDVets," which offers support services, the organization of various events as well as speakers. GDVets attend the Veterans Day parade each year, and you can see some photographs of their participation below:

The announcement by First Lady Michelle Obama included reference to 52 companies (including GoDaddy) who have all given a commitment to hiring and training veterans.

Mrs. Obama and Dr. Jill Biden first launched the initiative in 2011, calling on Americans to rally around service members, veterans, and their families, and to support them through wellness, education, and employment.

You know our veterans and military spouses are some of the most dedicated, skilled, talented people in this country. I am thrilled you all have pledged to hire more than 110,000 of them, " she said. " If anyone can make it happen, it's all of you. You are all some of the most innovative, successful businesses in the history of this country.

Since Joining Forces was founded, companies have hired or trained more than 1.2 million veterans or spouses, cutting the unemployment rate for veterans in half. You can find out more about the Joining Forces initiative in the video below:

GoDaddy was recently recognized as one of Fortune magazine's top 100 "Best Companies to Work For", and employs approximately 5,000 people around the world, many of them in the United States. With their history of supporting veterans, it is unsurprising that they signed up for the Joining Forces initiative:

"Hiring and supporting the brave men and women who serve our country is part of our GoDaddy DNA," said GoDaddy Chief People Officer Auguste Goldman. "We proudly hire and support our veterans, and their families, who are mission-focused, service-minded and committed, which are all qualities that work well in our culture. In fact, it is our hope to exceed our 'Joining Forces' pledge to hire 100 vets every year for the next five years."
