Eleven2 was founded in 2003 and has its headquarters in Texas, US. Eleven2 offers all the main types of hosting (shared, reseller, VPS & dedicated), although it primarily focuses on shared and VPS hosting and hosts over 150 thousand websites.

Eleven2 was started by two designers after brainstorming on napkins in a Starbucks coffee shop, however, was apparently sold to IHNetworks in 2012 which was kept relatively quiet until fairly recently (November 2014).

Eleven2 offers shared hosting in the US (Los Angeles & Dallas), EU (Amsterdam) and Asia (Singapore) as well as new SSD Hosting plans which are based in the USA only.

Editor's note: On paper Eleven2 seem like a very solid web hosting provider, but lately they have received very mixed reviews, with some being really positive, while others quite critical.

Eleven2 Shared Hosting Review

Eleven2 Shared Hosting Plans

Packages can be purchased both monthly or on a 1, 2 or 3-yearly basis, and with our Eleven2 coupons, it opens up for some significant savings. The table below shows the main features for the standard shared hosting (i.e. not SSD):

Plan Space Transfer Websites FreeDomain Free SSL Price
S-100 10 GB 50 GB Unlimited No No $2.98
S-200 250 GB 20 TB Unlimited No No $5
S-300 500 GB 40 TB Unlimited No No $10

SSD Hosting Plans

If you want greater performance out of your hosting and don't quite need as much disk space, then we recommend choosing their SSD Hosting. You can read more about the technologies they use in this detailed post. You would be mad to choose their regular hosting over this.

Plan Space Transfer Websites FreeDomain Free SSL Price
SSD-100 1 GB 50 GB Unlimited No No $2.98
SSD-200 100 GB 20 TB Unlimited No No $5
SSD-300 200 GB 40 TB Unlimited No No $10

Also, they offer the Softaculous one-click installer (our preferred installer) giving access to over 250 different scripts, including WordPress. They support Perl, Ruby on Rails, Python as well as the latest PHP5 version (you should check if they offer 5.6).

Support & Downtime

technical support Full 24/7 service support is provided via ticket, live chat, and phone. They claim that the average response time is under 10 minutes which seems pretty good. It is unclear what their average resolution time is, though.

Having searched the various public forums, such as Webhostingtalk, we can see that the latter half of 2014 saw quite a few complaints. Their Support and Reseller Hosting being particularly criticized. Whatever issues that arose at that time seem to be now resolved, and we can see a significant reduction this year of the number of issues reported which looks good if you are considering Eleven2.

We think this is a very promising sign, as it is well known for even the best hosting providers to have issues from time to time and indeed there are a few recent issues mentioned on Twitter but nothing out of the ordinary for a host their size.

As we have mentioned briefly before, Eleven2 offer a 99.9 percent Uptime Guarantee. The policy states that for every hour of downtime that breaks the guarantee, you will be refunded one day of hosting as a refund. There are no published statistics on what the actual Uptime figures are.

What we like about Eleven2

  • They have been around for a long time — They have been around for over ten years. These are people you can trust to be around for a long time to come and who have a vast amount of experience.
  • CPanel — They use the standard cPanel, albeit restyled and called their "e2Panel." This has all the tools and features that make managing your website very easy, which you can read more about here. We always recommend cPanel as it makes it extremely easy to transfer your website from one host to another, and it is very easy to use. Eleven2 also has an E2 iPhone app to allow its customers to manage their account when mobile.
  • Excellent customer support — Their support staff know what they are doing. We recently thought we would test out their knowledge via their online chat. We didn’t have to wait for more than a couple of minutes for a response, and posing as a potential customer, they were very quick to offer to help move our website across from our old host.
  • 60 day trial period — You can try out Eleven2 with their 60 days no questions asked money back guarantee, although this does not apply to extras such as Domain fees or SSL certificates.
  • CloudFlare — is integrated as standard to their cPanel to supercharge your website. If you follow our W3 Total Cache Settings with CloudFlare, you can be sure to significantly speed up your website.
  • Community Contact — Eleven2 are active in the wider community, commenting and responding to any feedback on various forums (such as Webhostingtalk).  They are quick to respond to any problems, and from what we have seen try extremely hard to ensure they have happy customers.

What we don't like about Eleven2

  • Upgrade path — While we love their Shared Hosting we feel that their VPS plans are a little overpriced compared to their competitors.  If you are expecting to outgrow the standard shared plan, then you may need to take this into account.
  • Dedicated IP SSL quite costly — We feel these services are a little overpriced, although their S-300 comes with these included.  If you are looking for an e-commerce solution that requires an SSL (which in turn requires a dedicated IP), then you may wish to consider other solutions.  $4 a month for a dedicated IP (which they will only issue if you have an SSL) double what most hosting providers charge.

Eleven2 Shared Hosting Review

Editor's Expert Opinion

verdict-eleven2 We like Eleven2 because of their high participation in the wider web hosting community, not only responding to forum threads about their service but trying to help people more generally.

The pricing for their shared hosting is great, especially with when using one of our special offers. That being said, our preference would be to push toward their new SSD web hosting.

One minor concern is that we have received a few negative user reviews more recently, but despite that we do not see from looking around the web that they have endemic issues relating to their hosting or quality of service. It is something we will be monitoring, though.

Eleven2 Frequently Asked Questions

Does Eleven2 offer Linux and Windows Hosting Plans?

Eleven2 only offers Linux hosting at this time. It does not offer Windows hosting.

Are there larger plans if I outgrow Shared Hosting?

Yes, they offer VPS hosting plans with many more resources. After that, you can easily upgrade to a dedicated server.

Does Eleven2 offer a free domain?

No, Eleven2 does not offer a free domain with any of their web hosting plans.

Does Eleven2 offer domain registration services?

While you can buy a domain when you sign up for hosting, they do not readily advertise domain registration services. We suspect you would be better using a company such as Namecheap.

Does Eleven2 offer support by live chat? What other methods can I use to contact them?

Yes, they offer support via live chat. You can also contact them via telephone (US) or ticket.

What languages is support offered in?

Their support is based in the United States and only communicates in English.

Where are their headquarters based?

They are based in Houston, Texas in the United States.

Where are their data centers located?

Their data centers are based in Dallas, London, and Singapore.

Will Eleven2 help migrate my websites?

Yes, providing your existing host uses cPanel then they will be more than happy to help migrate your site for you. If your existing site does not use cPanel or does not provide standard cPanel backups then they cannot help.

Does Eleven2 offer a free CDN (Content Distribution Network)?

Yes, you can easily configure CloudFlare to offer a CDN via the control panel.

Are there any limitations on the number of email accounts or emails I can send?

All shared hosting plans feature unlimited email accounts.

Are there any restrictions on what type of content I can host?

Yes, please see their full Acceptable Use Policy here. You should note the limitations on usage of storage space (i.e. storage must be used in connection with your site and not for backups).

What is Eleven2’s backup policy?

Their terms and conditions state that you should keep your own backups notwithstanding that Eleven2 has agreed to provide their backup service. Eleven2 do not indicate the frequency they carry out backups, just that they will hold multiple backup points of all your data.

We recommend you always keep your own backups away from your web hosting provider.

I was 3 years with eleven2. The past few months the whole thing went to the worst level. One of my accounts in the reseller hosting they said was using excessive CPU resources. They were suspending the entire WHM (affecting obviously all of my accounts). There was no warning email that in the next hour if you dont take any action we will suspend the service. Direct suspension!

Their replies in their support system in average is 3-5 hours. They overload their reseller servers so the CPU resources are very limited. Be careful

We run a small Australian website design business and have 23 years experience in marketing and design. We also operate DNS, MS Exchange servers and VPS servers and have experience working with Plesk, Cpanel and Virtualmin panels. We have quite a bit of experience, but we definitely are not experts by any means. We were searching for an affordable cPanel service for our low end clients and decided to go with Eleven2.

Unfortunately, we find their service and product to be dreadful. We have sent in 14 support tickets in 6 months. We've had problems with hacking, crons, permissions, firewalls and then the entire server IP got blacklisted by the global blacklists. We asked them for a credit on the unused part of our 3 year hosting. However, they denied it and didn't provide us with a counter-offer.

The server is blacklisted still at the time this review was written, and Eleven2 hasn't communicated with us about it all.

We really want to warn all potential customers. When it comes to this company, just stay away from them.

Your clients and business aren't worth risking.

I lost a whole week attempting to get hosting for my site with Eleven2. They flagged my order, and they made me email a copy of my credit card and ID, along with their authorisation form. I did all of that immediately. They told me processing the order would take 24 hours. Every day I would send them emails to ask what the progress was. I still haven't received a response from them. I talked to several different staff people via live chat. Each one gave me a different story. The first one said they didn't receive emails from me. The next person said my order was in billing and in the processing stage. The third person said I needed to email the manager to discover what was taking place. Whatever you do, don't use Eleven2 hosting.

The hosting from Eleven2 is definitely the worst experience I've had with any hosting company I have been with. Their servers are so unreliable. I had down time constantly. I had to check my sites all the time to make sure they were up. They never understood what the problem was. They kept moving me around to different servers, but it didn't help the problem. As I'm writing this review, one site of mine has reverted back to a state that's more than 6 months old! I am with chat support right now, trying to resolve the problem. My business has gone down, and my website looks terrible. And this is a day I have contacted customer service 3 times already about my websites going down. This month I've put in 4 other tickets about my websites going down, and last month I had 3. It's a complete nightmare trying to host with them. I am so furious.

I'm going to leave this service as soon as I can. Don't use this hosting company!

In the past, I have had a lot of trouble finding a good hosting service for my site. I need one that is reliable, fast, and that provides a lot of storage space. However, I am also working on a pretty tight budget, so I can’t really afford to pay a lot for these features. I know that there is a tradeoff between affordability and power, but I still try to find a good balance.

Recently, I signed up to create an account with Eleven2 because I had heard some good things about this service. A few people that I know and trust had told me about them, so I decided to give it a try. After all, what was the worst that could happen?

After six months, I have to say there are both good and bad points to this service. They are certainly not the worst service I have ever tried, but they are also not the best. I will have to think about whether I want to stick with them once the year is up.

One of the good features is that the service is pretty powerful. They offer a lot of useful features and made it pretty easy to transfer my site over to them. They also provide a lot of convenient options that you can choose if you need them, but you do not have to use them.

Unfortunately, some of these features are not easy to use. They definitely do not seem to aim things at people who are not pretty technically savvy to start with. They have some help files on their site, but these were not really terribly informative. I had a hard time getting some things set up.

However, they do have pretty good technical support, and it is available 24/7. I never had to wait very long for someone to answer my question. Not all of the answers were as helpful as I would have liked, but I was eventually able to get my issues resolved so that I could move forward.

The cost is pretty reasonable, actually, considering that they do offer a lot of different options. There is room for expansion and they are pretty generous with the storage space. However, I have not been so blown away by Eleven2 that I would recommend them without any reservations to someone who needed a hosting service.

I've been using Eleven2 for almost 2 years (paid annually) and my time with them has been nothing but absolutely terrible. Every single week I have problems with either the site going down or the databases being corrupted. It's completely out of order.

The live support is useless, the guys don't have a clue what to do or know what to say or even respond within a good period of time. I couldn't ask for a worse service even if I went to a free-host.

I completely recommend everybody to stay AWAY!

Im amazed by this post. I have been with Eleven 2 since 2011 and have to save there service has tanked. my servers have been down 3 times since January and tech support is a joke, Tried there "24/7 Live Support" and was kicked to email. Live Chat also kicked me to email and Calling them is painful. If your a reseller now, you will eventually realize that there are better hosting companies out there.

I host one of my websites with Eleven2, and I must say that the bandwith limit can be a problem in the case you are planning to run a very popular website, but if the amount of monthly visitors stays below 20k or so, Eleven2 is not a bad choice. It's cheap, and reliable.
