Host4ASP.net Reviews

When we were approached by Host4ASP.net to review their service we were initially had a very positive view on their service, based on their features and pricing, and that they specialize on Windows hosting. However, some months later, our enthusiam has all but gone thanks to the negative feedback provided by our readers.

Finding a decent ASP.net host can be pretty tricky as many of the mainstream hosts do not offer it, especially as some of the technicalities involved can make it more difficult for support staff to be fully versed in Linux and Windows.  This is where a specialist host can make the difference.  Couple that with a decent range of plans with both normal Disk Storage, and our favorite SSD Storage we think Host4ASP.net has a winning formula.  So, with our initial view out the way, let us dig into some of the details.

One thing that troubles us about HostASP.net is that they do not display who the owners are, and the only address they offer is that of their data center. We delve into this issue in more detail here.

Host4ASP.net have the perfect balance of features and pricing with all their different plans.  If you are on a budget, you can grab one of their basic plans from just $2.95 per month, but if you want slightly better performance we highly recommend checking out their SSD Hosting Plans that start from just $4.95.

Standard Disk Storage Plans

Host4ASP.net SSD Hosting Plans

If you prefer a little more speed and responsiveness for your site then we would highly recommend the SSD plans.  These are exactly the same specification as the plans highlighted above, except a little more expensive:

  • Basic - $4.95pm (usually $6.95)
  • Advance - $6.95pm (usually $9.95)
  • Business - $14.95pm (usually $20.95)

They don't seem to promote these plans, or their Hong Kong based hosting very well on their site, but if you check the footer you will see links to these plans.

3 Reasons to use Host4ASP.net Shared Hosting for your website or Blog

#1 Compared to its competitors, their Windows Features are great

We have already discussed the different plans and the main features of their hosting above.  Now we will turn to some of the most important ones

The following comparison table published on their site gives an insight into some of the technical features:

host4asp.net reviews comparison table

The highlights of these features have to be the following:

  • MS Web Deploy - This is a great tool for Windows servers that allow you to package easily up and deploy web applications more easily.
  • WebMatrix - This is a lightweight web development tool from Microsoft that is designed for all the top programming languages such as ASP.net, PHP, Node.js and, of course, HTML5.
  • Node.js - This is becoming a very popular programming language that unfortunately is not supported on many shared servers.  It allows you for instance to install sites such as Ghost .
  • Remote IIS Management - The ability to remotely connect to your server makes managing your account much simpler.
  • Better Security Suite - Anti-spam, Anti-virus, and DDoS Protection.

#2 Based in a very reputable data center

We are not tracking the uptime of any sites hosted by them ourselves, but our usual metric of checking social media and forums for complaints about downtime have returned none that is an excellent sign.

Despite them not explicitly reporting their data center partner on their website, they have given an address that is identical to ColoCrossing's datacenter in Chicago .  They are a very reputable datacenter, with a motto "Dedicated to Uptime".  By choosing a reliable data center and associated Enterprise grade hardware they have instant credibility and are highly likely to be able to achieve their 99.9% uptime guarantee.

#3 Great Value for Windows Hosting - Feature rich, with a great price

This host offers excellent value, especially for a Windows server.  Our only concern is that you may need to get the Advance or Business plan for the more busy sites due to the way they allocated memory.  That being said, the Business plan does give a dedicated IP, and Free SSL along with much greater resource allocations, so while more expensive it still is reasonable value compared to other Business hosting plans.

What are the negatives of using Host4ASP.net Hosting?

#1 Custom Control Panel may not be the most intuitive

Host4ASP.net uses Websitepanel for its control panel, and you can see a full demo of their control panel here .  You can see a screenshot of their demo below, and while the styling is very basic, it is easy to navigate and access all the features you might need from File Manager to Database management.

Host4ASP.NET Reviews WebsitePanel control panel

Unfortunately, we are not overly familiar with the WebSitePanel control panel, so it is hard to say if it is better or worse than the more popular Plesk (noting that cPanel only works on Linux).

#2 Our readers raise serious concerns over the level of their Support

They offer two methods of getting support; either by Live Chat or by Ticket.  Both options are available 24 x 7, and they endeavor to respond to your ticket within 2 hours and resolution within 48 hours.

We had a look around the Internet for indications of whether their support is any good, but there seems to be a distinct lack of what we would call "real" user reviews around.  Certainly we found many fake user reviews in addition to editorial reviews (on review sites) a few references back to 2006 (note that this must have been a previous owner of the domain as the company was started in 2013).  Even on Microsoft's own ASP.net, the reviews do seem a little keyword rich that is not natural and makes us question their authenticity.

The first version of our review was published back in April 2015, and since then several of our readers have left reviews. Almost all of the reviews (which you can read at the end of this article) make reference to very poor support. This concerns us.

#3 Their cheaper plans seem a little short on resources, especially memory.

Our only concern about the hosting plans is the amount of Site Memory allocated.  We think that the 256MB allocated to the Basic plan is not sufficient for all but a very basic website, and you may soon find yourself needing to upgrade.

This seems to us to be one of the main methods of upselling used by Host4ASP.net. However, the pricing is so competitive (i.e. good value) that we can't blame them. Setting realistic resource limits on budget plans is essential to avoid overselling, and to achieve a more stable server in the long run.

We would, therefore, suggest choosing, at least, the Advance plan to lock in the initial discount on the plan that should be more appropriate for the slightly more busy site.

Editor's Opinion: Do we recommend Host4ASP.net

If we trust our readers, and we have no reason not to, then we would not recommend them.

Looking at the reviews left by our own readers, there are some serious concerns raised about their support, with some users unable to even raise support tickets, and even if they did no help is forthcoming. Obviously, this is totally unaccceptable from a web hosting provider, so despite their Windows Hosting looking great on paper, we must warn our users against using them.

If you are looking for Windows Hosting, you can use our Find Hosting Tools here, and select Windows hosting in the filter on the left hand side.

If you need .NET hosting and MSSQL, they offer a decent package with good features at a reasonable price for smallish businesses. The cpanel and ticketing systems work ok. However, none of it is any good if the sites go offline for some time and support is nowhere to be reached. When it works it’s great, but it frequently doesn’t for prolonged periods of time and then it’s a disaster businesses can’t afford.
+ PROS: easy interfaces, remote management, good speed when working
- CONS: Lousy support system, very poor English, 1st level sales & tech support often the same people; no way of addressing poor support with quality assurance or management

If I could give a lower score, I would do. They never even look at my support issue for 6 months although I recontacted them every few weeks. My only option was to move to another hosting company. I am still fighting them to get a refund.
+ PROS: - Cheap
- CONS: - No support at all - Will never be refunded if there is a problem - I tried for 6 months to get support for a simple problem but they never even looked at it.

If negative scores were allowed, this would get a -5. They claim to be located in Chicago, Illinois, but the address given is just the data center address they co-locate in. They will never grant a refund even within their 30 day terms. Buyer beware!

Cons: Terrible customer service.
Unwilling to help with any issue.
It will always be "your fault" for their problem.

I would skip this host and find a better one.
Definitely switching when my plan is up. 6 months to go!

Pros: Support is pretty good, although I haven't required any major help with anything.

PHP
MySQL
SQL Server

Cons: Doing anything in the control panel crashes my domain at least 50% of the time.
No secured FTP.
No SSL or TLS email server.
FTP doesn't work most of the time.

Uptime was ok for start but when the problems started, the service was unbearable. Serious downtimes and no reply whatsoever to inquiries what has happened. E.g. no access to own databases/servers or to the control panel to get support

SQL access is insanely slow because their systems clutter some data they cannot describe. Answer is rebooting every week or two.

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Downtime, support

I have been with them since mid August (2015) and the server is down very often.
Even their server sometimes is down which means I cannot even open a ticket to complain.
I've tried a few ISP in these last few years but this one is far worse than any mediocre ISP.
I was convinced to switch to Host4Asp.Net cause I read good stuff. I guess it's all fake reviews.
I have never seen anything like that. I cannot understand how these ISP are still in business. It's a total disgrace.
If someone is happy with them it means they're lying.

Pros: I wish there was something positive.

Cons: Downtime is frequent. Sometimes for hours.

- up time is so bad with DNS error
- support is trying to make money not helping you
- ask for money back is hard. they won't want to refund you right away. I am still waiting for them to refund.
- you cannot backup your site by yourself. I have not tried their backup service.
- a lot hassle to get an empty website up and running in less an hour.
- more and more cons.
