The customer service was excellent. I haven't used Siteground in a long time because I was injured years ago and had to stop the work I was doing at that time. I've recently returned to reviewing Siteground as am interested in moving clients to their service. I recalled that Siteground had great customer service. This is still true. I appreciate the time and care that went into the session with me. I will be recommending Siteground to customers in future.

Firstly it needs to be said that Siteground's reviews are completely biased.

When on a support chat, if you rate them highly it offers to redirect you to a third party reviewing platform, like this one. If you rate the chat negatively - it doesn't!

So no wonder there aren't many negative reviews here. I feel it just reflects the company as a whole.

My siteground experience has been horrible and has lost me business due to the account limitations on their accounts with some months having 3+ down days.

They limit 'cpu time usage' and 'account executions' which isn't ever mentioned pre-sale - and my site, at only 30k visits a month has too a high stats in those, even on the gogeek plan which should handle "100k vistors a month". When pressed they simply try to up-sell you to an $80 per month account with no limits.

If you have any amount of traffic, you're going to be struggling to cope on their shared servers.

In regards to their support, I do appreciate how easily it is to get hold of someone (which can sometimes be hard with other hosts), but English is their second language and it's often so frustrating being on calls or chats for over a hour just to convey what's going wrong. Often the staff are unhelpful or rude as well.

Most of the time however, their staff simply tell me to "hire a developer" - it's the go to response whenever something is wrong.

I would AVOID at all costs unless you have an extremely tiny site. But why bother with the premium cost here if any host will do.

As menioned on these previous occasions, on the shared hosting plan your website uses, the resources available are limited, since they are shared between all accounts on the server. To ensure fair usage, there are specific CPU and process executions allocated to each account, and in order to be transparent we list these in detail on our full feature list page. Unfortunately we cannot remove these, they apply to all customers who pay the same amount as you do. For websites that need higher resourced, we offer higher plans. We are surprised to see that although you were not happy with this limitations, you recently renewed your service for the same plan. We are of course happy to see this, but if your website is not optimized properly, it will keep hitting the account limits. We strongly encourage you to review your tickets where our technical team has listed possible solutions for your case, and discuss your further steps with them.

Right now I am enjoying fast responses, from courteous and knowledgeable agents. they walk you thru info or point you to Short, precise articles showing me HOW to use the resources at my disposal. They are also willingto wait while yo do and dont rush you thru a chat. They dont leave til yo ae satisfied with the answer or personally take it upon to get things done.

Consistent communication and updates including a PHONE CALL along the way on whats going on. Woot.

I pray SiteGround Keeps up this level of Customer care. I only didnt rate it all 10 coz my sites aren't up yet, so I cant speak about uptime with authority. I wish I had moved to SiteGround ages ago!

We use this theme for our tests, as it amplifies the differences, and is more representative of websites used by every day businesses and bloggers.

SiteGround advertise their plans as including "Managed Services on all Plans". While this is correct, you should not mistake it for a fully managed WordPress Hosting Solution like WP Engine, even though it has the majority of features that they offer.

We class "fully managed" WordPress Hosting as something that takes care of absolutely everything for you (security, highly specialized server environment, WordPress Upgrades and more), but on the other hand, will have a large number of restrictions such as no access to the control panel \ server environment, restrictions on what plugins you can use and will often charge by the page view.

SiteGround, as you will read elsewhere in this review has all the things that a Fully Managed WordPress hosting provider has, but none of the negatives. You still get to use the control panel, setup email, install multiple websites and generally have a high degree of control over your hosting environment.

Are their any downsides to using SiteGround hosting?

There is no doubt about it; SiteGround is our Editor's choice when it comes to shared hosting. That being said, any review would not be complete without looking at some of the negative things we have found. 

#1 Their StartUp plan does not come with their SuperCacher or Premium support.

This is not the end of the world as you still get SSD storage, PHP 7 and OPcache, so using that combination you can still get some impressive speeds.  

Furthermore, even though you do not get premium support, your queries are still dealt with very quickly. In fact, your tickets will still get answered more quickly than pretty much every other hosting provider we know.

But ... we do think their GrowBig plan offers better features and is overall better value.

#2 They charge a setup fee if you want to pay monthly, and you can only pay monthly as a trial for the first month.

It is very common for web hosting to be better value the longer you sign up for. As part of the marketing strategy, the price advertised is usually for their longest billing term. In this case, 12 months.

SiteGround allow you to pay monthly, but you have to pay an extra $14.95 setup fee. Furthermore, after the first month, you will have to pay yearly, but you won't then have access to the 60 percent initial discount.

It gets worse, though. You cannot then get a refund for the setup fee under their money-back guarantee.

If you sign up for their one month trial, you are literally mad. Just get the yearly plan, take the discount AND if you decide they are not for you, just get a FULL refund under their money-back guarantee (free domains are deducted from refund).

In other words, don't make the mistake of signing up for the month's trial.
